Epitaph





Poetry type: Epitaph

This poem is usually very short. It can be serious or humorous. It can be rhymed or unrhymed. What makes this poem an Epitaph is the subject. An Epitaph is the short poem which can be placed upon the the headstone of a grave. It usually explains about the person’s life or the way a person died.


Directions:
Think of a person, real or unreal. Imagine what could be said about that person. Write a few lines which sums up this person’s life, or tells about the way this person died.

Sample:
Here lies poor old Ben
We will never see him again
He was a friend to all
Too bad he had a fall
He loved to ride his horse
But now he can’t, of course.
