Phone Poem





Poetry type: Variation of Haiku

A poem consisting of using one’s phone number as the basis for the number of syllables or words one is allowed to use in the poem.



Directions:
Write down your phone number, or make up a phone number. Write it vertically. The number on each line is the number of syllables or words allowed on each line. Any number may be substituted for “0.”


Sample: 555-7624
5 Sitting in the park
5 I saw a small bird
5 Hopping on one leg
7 Searching for a bit of food
6 I threw him some bread crumbs
2 His eyes
4 Seemed to say thanks


The phone numbers are removed when the poem is completed.
