Tomado de REFLEXIONS
ON THE PATH (1986) by Herbert B. Puriyear, Ph.D. Bantam Books Inc. Based upon the readins
of the Sleeping Prophet Edgar Cayce Pags: 192-210
When we read the Cayce readings on prophecies of earth changes, such as the possible inundation of California, we think we can pray and change that prophecy. Should not we rather say, "Let that be in the Lord's hands. He knows that of which we are in need." It may truly be said that there some things we need to meet in the right spirit and in the silence, rather than in trying to change a situation or to do something to prevent a change from ocurring. A typical American attitude toward an undesirable situation is "Let's do something about it!" But remember the beautiful Serenity Prayer in which we ask: "God grant me the serenity to change the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference." We are not very good at accepting things that cannot be changed. Although we may like this prayer, we may not be inclined to accept the notion that some things cannot be changed. Accepting this concept is not the American way. A psychiatrist from Mexcio conducting objective research at the University of Texas a few years ago found that Americans had healthier attitudes about things that could not be changed-such as the death of a love one. He found that even in such relatively irreversible circumstances, Americans were futilely trying to do something about the situation-such as giving expensive funerals. We must be very discriminating in our opinions on what needs to be changed. As we learn to be still, our ability to discriminate is sharpened.
When we consider the prophecies of changes in these times of crisis, we are likely to say, "What do we do about it?" The instruction given us in this particular psalm of crisis is: "Be still and know."
It all boils down to this question, "In what or in whom do we put our trust?" De we put our trust in our ability to manipulate things, or do we put our trust in God, knowing that there is only One Force at work in the universe, knowing it is a good force, and knowing that it is working for good in the lives of us all.
