Professional Bio
John-Michael graduated from Keene (NH) High School in 1978. He went on to attend Harvard College, where he majored in Psychology
and Social Relations. In the years since, John-Michael has had the following positions and accomplishments:
- Counselor in a social service agency serving 13-21 year old youth and their families
- Writer and workshop developer and trainer around such topics as personal empowerment, life purpose, visioning, stress management, change management, nonviolent communication, healing trauma, and global mind change
- Trainer and teacher of trainers with The Monroe Institute (TMI), in Faber, VA
- Training consultant to the US Office of Personnel Management in Boston, developing teaching workshops on creativity, management, and
communication skills
- Consultant to Families and Children Together (FACT) in Amherst, VA, creating a program teaching life skills to at-risk children
- Consultant to Amherst County Youth Services, developing The Future Options Project, a comprehensive community program for youth
empowerment through adult-youth partnerships
- Curriculum consultant and writer for WGBH's NOVA secondary school educational outreach program.
- Co-director of the Institute For Living, Blacksburg, VA, offering courses and intensive personal retreats in personal development.
- Counselor and coach with a practice in Blacksburg and Roanoke, VA
- Founding member and a facilitator of the New River Valley Men’s Council (VA)
- Co-facilitator of a Mankind Project (menswork) support group.
- Director of Oak Meadow School in Putney, VT (2000-2002), an alternative distance learning K-12 school and 6-12 Internet school, training and supporting 25 teachers
- Teacher of various subjects to 5th through 12th graders, including accelerated learning, psychology, and life skills courses
- Implemented live e-learning technology and taught classes over the internet
- Author of Straight From the Heart (Oak Meadow Publications, 2001), a book on parent-teen communication
- Authored a manual on implementing learning styles with students
- Consultant with HeartLight International, organizing and facilitate a ten-day Collaboratory for twenty-five educators, trainers, and
business people, where models and programs for community-based learning centers were developed.
- Consultant to The International Quality Leadership Institute in Chicago, developing models, surveys, and train-the-trainer programs for
the Youth-Centered Community (YC2) initiative
- President of Monadnock Freedom Forum based in Keene NH, which over the past two years has sponsored and produced a number of community education events relating to citizen governance, election reform, local currencies, media reform, and many other topics.
- Founder and director the Monadnock Community Currency Project (MC2P), which focuses on education around money and developing alternative currency and exchange networks.
- Creator and host of Oasis radio program on WKNH 91.3FM in Keene, which interviews local and regional guests on issues of personal, social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
- Organizer for the Monadnock Institute for Community Advancement and Sustainability (MICAS) initiative, a newly formed non-profit focusing on networking and capacity-building.
