LFAS: The Killing Sound
Deep within the ocean waters Where mighty whales conduct their symphonies And dolphins sing with sons and daughters
The hand of man extends its cruelty
We’re blasting sounds so loud they’re killing Cetacean life in every ocean Heedless of the blood we’re spilling
Our hearts are closed to their emotion
The reason for this mindless bloodshed The pols will claim are lurking dangers From submarines with heartless warheads
From foreign countries we call strangers
They claim the danger’s not severe That they can stop the sound when there are Whales or dolphins coming near
But if that’s true then tell me why are
Mammals washing up on beaches With their inner ears exploded In places where the sound wave reaches?
Your hazard risks are sugarcoated
For short-term interests, we are willing To undo nature’s timeless tending Of living creatures, and go on killing
The very life that we depend on
What will I say to my grandchildren’s Questions about how this happened? How could a world of caring citizens
Ignore the welfare of their brethren?
We justify our domineering By demonizing every rival But wages of fear-based profiteering Threaten most our own survival
Might it be better to lend a hand To those unlike us from foreign lands To yoke our fortunes and understand
The commonweal, the common strand
That links our futures, for great or ill? Let’s heed our Constitution’s call For equal rights, freedom and goodwill
For humans and nature – for one and all
So stop this toxic sonification Of our oceans, and free our nations To undertake true education:
To heal our planet and all relations
