  • The Coming of the Kingdom
    Luke 17:20-37

    v20-21 Christ answers the Pharisees. The way they questioned Jesus was "eperotaoStrong's 1905" from "epiStrong's 1905 + erotaoStrong's 2065"

    eperotao in other contexts
Matt 12:10 the Pharisees asked/quizzed Him; they were trying to trick Jesus
    Matt 16:1 they pressed Him
    Matt 22:23 He was asked
Matt 17:10 His disciples asked Him. We can see that the word does not mean trying to cause so stumble, but we certainly see that this is not a casual query.
    Mark 5:9 Jesus probed

These people, the Pharisees, really wanted to know about the Kingdom and when it would (will) come.

(Deuteronomy 18:9-12 - WARNING - DO NOT TRY TO DETERMINE THE TIMES BY ANY AGENT OR SOURCE NOT FROM GOD)
The Pharisees are asking the wrong question!
The right question is, "What is the nature of the Kingdom of God, and how can I be a part of it?".
    v22-34 Christ answers His followers.
He stresses the suddenness of His coming
v24 like lightning - suddenly and surprisingly
v26-27 Illustrations - Like the days of Noah
v28-29 Illustrations - in the days of Lot
v30-37 Like these examples so will the Son of man come -
People will be carrying on with life as usual and then the son of Man will come.
(note in verses 34-35 that the opposite ends of daytime are encompassed)

    What is Christ's solution?
The need for a change of life,
being continually prepared for His imminent return,
not continually wondering when He will return
so you can make your self ready at the last minute.
