    The Trials of Christ
    John 19:1-16 The characters
Caiaphas, Annas, Sadducees, Pilate, Herod, Sanhedrin

    Annas
    John 18:13, 19-24
He had been appointed as high priest by Roman authorities, very old, probably in his 80's (he and Caiaphas are also found in Acts 4) Very much not appropriate to be high priest and the people knew this. John 2:13-16 the high priest was in charge of collecting these fees

    Sadducees
Denied any thing they could not see

    Pilate
    Traitor of Spain, cruel, coward

    Herod
No convictions, wanted to see a spectacle

The illegality in both Jewish and Roman law
Annas had no jurisdiction; Caiaphas had a vested interest; Jewish law forbid trial at night; Pilate found him innocent

    The intention of God

  • The last trial ... by God in heaven Acts 2:23
  • delivered into lawless hands 1Pet 2:22-24
  • Jesus was a willing sacrifice 1Cor 15:3-4
