probably in his 80's (he and Caiaphas are also found in Acts 4) Very much
not appropriate to be high priest and the people knew this. John 2:13-16
the high priest was in charge of collecting these fees

The illegality in both Jewish and Roman law
Annas had no jurisdiction; Caiaphas had a vested interest; Jewish law
forbid trial at night; Pilate found him innocent
