    2Sam 21:1-9

A famine in the land but also unanswered prayer

3 consequences of which we'll only deal with first.

Who were the Gibeonites? They wire descendents of the Amorites but let's pick up at Joshua 9:15-21 Joshua made peace with them and verse 21 they became slaves to Israel. Saul had broken that treaty at some point

1Sam 22:9-19 may give us some clue as when this slaughter had happened

That happened so long before 2Sam 21 why would God hold this against the whole nation at this point in history?
Joshua 7: God holds the "children of Israel" accountable

2Sam 21:4 Some more clues to past history. why would they say this
1Sam 22:7 When Saul was desiring people to follow him he told them he would pay them. When did he get this money? He was not a rich king; he probably acquired it in this attack on the Gibeonites.

v1 the concern for God's blessing and answered prayer. And the solution -- David inquired of the Lord

v3 David’s response is to make things right

    The need for cleansing
    1John 1:6, 8, 10 (Some triads for study)
    v6

    1. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness,
    2. we lie,
    3. and do not the truth:
    v 8
    1. If we say that we have no sin (Singular),
    2. we deceive ourselves,
    3. and the truth is not in us.
    v 10
    1. If we say that we have not sinned,
    2. we make him a liar,
    3. and his word is not in us.
