  • Parable of the Talents
    Matthew 25:14-30
    Pastor Mark Brown

Back up to ch 24:36, "...no one knows the hour..."

    24:42 be ready
    Chapter 25: The 10 virgins - 5 ready 5 not
v 13 Be on the alert

So here in 15:14ff Christ is already past the time element and into the judgement

    v 15
    distribution of the masters funds.
Each received according to his own ability

    v16 17 and 18
The first two servants invested and gained
Our attention is drawn to the 3rd  servant who hid his lord's money.

v 19 - there is a long time; apparently longer than expected.
The 5 talent servant receives commendation and the 2 talent servant receives the same commendation

Luke 16 the unrighteous steward knew he was guilty but we should focus in v10 about "least and much"
And in v12 about faithfulness in this lifetime

Now we come to the 1 talent servant.
This servant says he knows the master but he really does not.

So to whom is this passage written? What about this third servant?

    The servants represent Christians.

  • All three were entrusted with the Lords goods.
  • All three are judged at one time in one place.
  • All three are judged on the basis of their works not on their standing.

  • What are we doing with what Christ has given us? If we will put God's interest first...
