March 29
"You have advisors by the ton your astrologers and stargazers, who try to tell you
what the future holds...But...theirs is no fire to sit beside to make you warm!"
Isaiah 47:13,14 TLB.
We all like to know what's going to happen in our lives. Astrology feeds on our voracious
inquisitiveness, and the daily papers oblige. Even television accommodates; we see
advertising now for psychics. It is almost a spiritual physic for us to have our psychic.
"For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to
suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say
what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and
turn aside to myths" 2 Timothy 4:3,4. We have gathered around us "teachers"
who soothe our itching, curious ears with generics and strange genetics.
But "From now on I will tell you of new things, of hidden things unknown to you"
Isaiah 48:6; "Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the
proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long
ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings..." Romans
16:25,26. The astrologers are not to validate and establish us; Christ's gospel of good
news will do that for us. Faith takes the place of curiosity, and peace is established in
our borders.
"...Nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote
controversies rather than God's work which is by faith" 1 Timothy 1:4. "My times
are in your hands..." (Psalm 31:15), Father, not the horoscopes which try to peer
into the future. Your vision, not television, will reveal to us only that which we need to
know. Anything else is a perishscope!

"I called him, but he gave me no answer." - Song of Solomon 5:6 |
"Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered." - Hebrews 5:8 |
Unanswered petitions are not unheard. God keeps a file for our prayers--they are not blown away by the wind, they are treasured in the King's archives. This is a registry in the court of heaven wherein every prayer is recorded. |
Must Christ pass through seas of his own blood to win the crown, and are we to walk to heaven dryshod in silver slippers? No, our Master's experience teaches us that suffering is necessary, and the true-born child of God must not, would not, escape it if he might. |

Hearing God
The young man had lost his job and didn't know which way to turn. So he went to see the old preacher. Pacing about the preacher's study, the young man ranted about his problem. Finally he clenched his fist and shouted, "I've begged God to say something to help me. Tell me, Preacher, why doesn't God answer?"
The old preacher, who sat across the room, spoke something in reply -- something so hushed it was indistinguishable. The young man stepped across the room. "What did you say?" he asked.
The preacher repeated himself, but again in a tone as soft as a whisper. So the young man moved closer until he was leaning on the preacher's chair. "Sorry," he said. "I still didn't hear you."
With their heads bent together, the old preacher spoke once more. "God sometimes whispers," he said, "so we will move closer to hear Him." This time the young man heard and he understood.
We all want God's voice to thunder through the air with the answer to our problem. But God's is the still, small voice. . . the gentle whisper.
Perhaps there's a reason. Nothing draws human focus quite like a whisper. God's whisper means I must stop my ranting and move close to Him, until my head is bent together with His. And then, as I listen, I will find my answer. Better still, I find myself closer to God. In times of trouble and pain, we need to come to our Heavenly Father in prayer both for the answer and also to show the Lord our trust in Him. There is nothing impossible with the Lord. He is the answer and through Him shall all of our troubles cease. I encourage you to call upon the Lord today and speak to God not as a superficial being but speak to the Lord as a friend. He knows you better than you know yourself.

What do we really
expect from prayer, our prayers? Do we think Jesus will remain the same as a result?
Untouched? Effecting Him is so desired! What goes out from Jesus WILL help the situation
of need, bring change, alter the natural course of cause and effect. And in all these,
isn't He glorified? © Send a note to Cathy Vinson , the writer of this devotion
