They should collect all the food of these good years that are coming and store up the
grain under the authority of Pharaoh.
(Genesis 41:35 NIV)

Bible which you have learned by heart.

How good it is to know that our God rules, but it is just as necessary to believe that He
overrules, as well. When the world seems about to turn upside down, Hebrews 1:3 assures us
that He "upholds all things by the word of His power."
How pompous of Satan to say to Jesus when He was in the wilderness, "All this will I
give you...if you will bow down and worship me." Matthew 4:9. "All authority has
been given to Me in heaven and on earth," (Matthew 28:18) says our Lord, and even
Satan cannot rule or overrule in our lives, for "...The one who is in you is greater
than the one who is in the world" (1 John 4:4).

Have we a breach of love or confidence that we need to repair? Are we allowing
misunderstandings to stand in the way of happiness, our own and another's? Then let us ask
the Repairer of the breach (Isaiah 58:12) for His guidance in mending our fractured
relationship, whether it is someone at home, at work, or at church.
"Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and
kissed him. And they wept" (Genesis 33:4). Jacob wrestled with God that the
breach with his brother might be repaired and he was assured that all would be well. Are
we wrestling with God that we may mend our broken bonds of love?

... a Christian whose soul is in a healthy state, will come forward joyously, and say, "I will speak, not about myself, but to the honour of my God. |
Holy Scripture requires searching--much of it can only be learned by careful study. There is milk for babes, but also meat for strong men. |

"They are they which testify of me." - John 5:39 |
We remain on earth as sowers to scatter good seed; as ploughmen to break up the fallow ground; as heralds publishing salvation. We are here as the "salt of the earth," to be a blessing to the world. We are here to glorify Christ in our daily life. |
The Scriptures are the swaddling bands of the holy child Jesus; unroll them and you find your Saviour. The quintessence of the word of God is Christ. |

But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief.
Job 16:5 (NIV)

Perspective by Cathy Vinson

The angel spoke it. Heaven knows. The women at the gravesite, having a heart known, were offered protection and buffering from the sight of the "terribleness" of this one of heaven. Is heaven watching? Does heaven know the heart attracted to Jesus? The keepers saw such a being as had never been seen: great fear. Fear enough to become as dead. There was no buffer, no preparation but the brute revelation of majestic awesomeness. But the messenger protected the women - who sought Jesus. "Do not fear, for I know you seek Jesus, who was crucified." The one whose sight would have caused unreceivable trembling was able to be received in offering inward comfort; they were addressed by one who "knew" them. A terrible marvel of heaven: not many are visited by such a messenger on this earth. Such ooh and aah and get an audience who in turn do the same. How stretching to know that when all is revealed the would-be ooh's and aah's of such a one that can cause a great earthquake, roll an immense stone and shine like lightning will be dwarfed. For at that place there will be "One who sits upon the throne and the Lamb forever and ever" (Rev 5:14). Send a note to © Cathy Vinson , the writer of this devotion |
