Golden Words

Potiphar noticed this and realized that the Lord was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did.

Genesis 39:3  (NLT)

Success and suffering are vitally and organically linked. If you succeed without suffering, it is because someone else has suffered before you; if you suffer without succeeding, it is that someone else may succeed after you.

August 4

"Touch Me and see..." (Luke 24:39).

My friend, touch My anguished heart and accept My compassion; touch My eyes and see what I see; touch My ears and know that I hear your pleadings; touch My pierced hands that hold you close to My own human heart; touch My arms that hold you up when human strength can no longer sustain; touch My pierced feet that walk before you that you may walk in My footsteps; touch the all of Me and see that I am flesh and bone as your own flesh and bone.

I want you to ask of Me. Yes, I understand your doubts and fears. My son and daughter, walk with Me and touch Me for I am your Friend.

"The people that do know their God shall be strong."

– Daniel 11:32

"I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands."

- Haggai 2:1

Every believer understands that to know God is the highest and best form of knowledge; and this spiritual knowledge is a source of strength to the Christian. It strengthens his faith.

Infinite mercy spares the food of men, but in view of the active agents which are ready to destroy the harvest, right wisely are we taught to pray, "Give us this day our daily bread."

Having the Son

by Cathy Vinson

He who HAS the Son has life; he who has not the Son of God has not that life"

(1 John 5:12)

Since the Garden of Eden where stood TWO trees, there has been this dual choice. Choosing life or not to. From the beginning man has been bent on choosing the tree that he thinks will leave himself as the major focus. He looks to himself, his own good and evil, as in the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, rather than choosing life.

Again this was echoed when Moses spoke to the people in Deuteronomy 30:19: "...I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now CHOOSE LIFE, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him, for the Lord is your life..." From this list, we can see the things of life are in "having" Him: loving, listening, cleaving...

The premier choice between life and death came when Jesus was set before us. Why again do we err and lean to the way that disregards the Living Person merely to look at the measley works of our hands? We really do like to look at ourselves. The Good side of the Eden tree deceives us; we are bolstered up by OUR good and the standards and goals we meet for ourselves. What we fail to notice is that the Good side, our good, is still from the same tree...it is not life.

To have life requires that we "have the Son." He only requires that we "abide in Him" (Jn 15). We are confused because our works will not bring Him to us. A focus on ourselves will not do it. On our part let us choose relationship with the Son that we might find life. He is placed before us (Jn 3:14). Choose that you might have life. "Choose life...".

~ Records of Bible Reading ~

John Quincy Adams said: “I have for many years made it a practice to read through the Bible once a year. My custom is to read four or five chapters every morning immediately after rising from my bed. It employs about an hour of my time, and seems to me the most suitable manner of beginning the day. In what light soever we regard the Bible, whether with reference to revelation, to history, or to morality, it is an invaluable and inexhaustible mine of knowledge and virtue.”

Rev. Romaine studied nothing but the Bible for the last 30 or 40 years of his life.

Henry Willmer, devoted every hour that could be spared during a long lifetime to serious Bible study. He read with the most detailed attention the whole Bible 8 times over. During his 9th reading at the Book of Job, death overtook him.

A poor prisoner confined in a dungeon had no light except for a few moments when food was brought in. He used those moments to read the Bible, saying that he could find his mouth in the dark, whereas he could not read in the dark.
