August 25
"He drew me out of deep waters" (Psalm 18:16b). "And...the
Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on
their left" (Exodus 14:22).
All finally have a Red Sea experience. What matters is, do we drown or do we forge ahead?
"Why are you crying out to Me...move on" (v.15). "...The Lord drove the sea
back...and turned it into dry land" (v.21). Our duty is to believe God will keep His
promises of a dry land while we go through the waters of affliction. The waters become
walls of protection, as God brings us through to deliverance.

Faith, in the Scripture, is spoken of under the emblem of all the senses. It is sight: "Look unto me and be ye saved." It is hearing: "Hear, and your soul shall live." Faith is smelling: "All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia"; "thy name is as ointment poured forth." Faith is spiritual touch. |
A stranger may not intrude where a child may venture. When the Holy Ghost has given you to feel the spirit of adoption, you may come to Christian ordinances without fear. |

But my mouth would encourage you;
comfort from my lips would bring you relief.

Reward by Cathy Vinson
|
We may have briefly prayed before an encounter with another only to realize later how natural and pleasant that time had flowed. Because it was all so effortless, we are tempted to forget that God almost concealed Himself in the pleasing consequence. If He answers lovely, His ways are lovely. And finding them lovely our affections may grow. He says, "My reward is with Me." He doesn't give without giving Himself. He can't be divided from His gift. "For I Myself will help you" (Is 41:13). He, our "very present help," translates to be the HELP we need. Amy Grant has sung "We're just here to learn to love Him..." This is our courtship. A lifetime of seeing glimpses of Him in His ways will only draw us more. "I delight to sit in His shade, and His fruit is sweet to my taste" (S of S 2:3b). Learning to love Him...when He appears in triumph we will be able to see fully that "His reward is with Him, and His recompense accompanies Him." Cathy Vinson©

Music in the Bible
The Bible does not give complete information about the Hebrew musical forms and their
development. Bible study, history and archaeology have been combined to give us some
insight into early Hebrew music.
David is credited with the invention of a number of instruments. We do not, however, know
precisely know what they looked or sounded like (Amos 6:5). David called upon a chorus of
4000 to offer praises to the Lord "with instruments which i made to praise" (1
Chron 23:5; 2 Chron 7:6; Neh 12:6). David also composed many songs as evidenced by the
books of Psalms.
Though God directed Israel's social and religious development, the nation also absorbed
ideas from the surrounding cultures. Israel's history brought it into contact with ideas
and customs from all over the world. Some men from Israel also married foreign wives.
Thecustom of their wives began to creap into their lifestyle. Naturally, these customs
included music.
The purpose the music served and the way that the listeners responded to the music played
a large part in the development of Hebrew music. In times of war it was necessary to send
signals or alarms. The hebrews developed the shophar for this task. Merrymaking called for
the lighter, happier sounds of the pipe or flute.
