For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound
mind.
2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
We must confess that many situations arise in our lives that produce fear. It may be
illness, failure, financial loss, loneliness, loss of job, or death. Sometimes fear is the
result of trying to handle our situations ourselves instead of committing them to the
Lord.

"Gather up the leftover fragments that nothing may be lost" (John 6:12b NAS).
God is particular about our bits and pieces and what we do with them: frag-ments of time
and oppor-tu-nity, thoughts and actions.
Jesus asked His disciples to ga-ther the broken pieces that repre-sent what is left over
from His bounty. When God feeds us, He feasts us. He is able to do "im-measurably
more than all we ask or im-agine," even (Ephesians 3:20). But He does not want us to
waste the frag-ments from His abundance. He plans His universe to the last jot and tittle.

"Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?" - Hebrews 1:14 |
"He himself hath suffered being tempted." - Hebrews 2:18 |
Angels are the unseen attendants of the saints of God; they bear us up in their hands, lest we dash our foot against a stone. Loyalty to their Lord leads them to take a deep interest in the children of his love; they rejoice over the return of the prodigal to his fathers house below, and they welcome the advent of the believer to the Kings palace above. |
It is a common-place thought, and yet it tastes like nectar to the weary heart-Jesus was tempted as I am. You have heard that truth many times: have you grasped it? He was tempted to the very same sins into which we fall. Do not dissociate Jesus from our common manhood. |

But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief.

Forbearing to Make Use of Omission by Cathy Vinson
|
Perhaps the greatest weight the earth bears up under is the Christian's sins of omission. Omission means "the act or instance of leaving out, forbearing to perform or make use of; neglect." "If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him (forbears to make use of), how is it possible that the love of God is in him?" (1 Jn 3:17). Henry Drummond gives us something to consider: "The Judgment Day is depicted for us in the imagery of One seated on a throne, who divides the sheep from the goats (Mt 25:31)--the final test of religion at that great day is not what I have done, not what I have believed, not what I have achieved, but how I have acted charitably. Sins of commission in that awful indictment are not even referred to. By what we have not done, by sins of omission, we are judged. It could not be otherwise. For the withholding of love is the negation of the Spirit of Christ, the proof that we never knew Him, that for us He lived in vain. It means that He inspired NOTHING in all our lives, that we were not once near enough to Him to be seized with the spell of His compassion for the world. It means that 'I lived for myself, I thought for myself, for myself and none beside--just as if Jesus had never lived, as if He had never died.' It is there we will meet either those whom we have met and helped, or the UNPITIED masses whom we have neglected. No other witness need be summoned. No charge other than lovelessness will be brought. Be not deceived." "I know your deeds, that they are neither cold not hot. I wish you were one or the other!..." (Rev 3:16).
