Golden Words

I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow your word.

Psalm 119:67 (NLT)

Psalm 119 is the longest Psalm and the longest chapter in the Bible. It is different from most other Psalms in its length and content. It was written as an acrostic. It may have been written to read, rather than to be sung. The main focus of the entire 176 verses is God's word. There 22 stanzas, each devoted to a letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

In today's verse we see the benefit of discipline in one's life. The stanza 65-72 show the goodness of God. God is good at all times. Even in affliction and discipline God is good. Discipline will give us knowledge and good judgment from the word of God.

By afflictions God is spoiling us of what otherwise might have spoiled us. -- When he makes the world too hot for us to hold, we let it go.

"Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it" (Ezra 10:4).

Courage and encouragement, operation and cooperation are within this sage ad-vice. God raises up men and women to sustain the burdens for us all, and it is the group's duty to be with the person in heart and mind. The leader, whether minster, captain, manager, employer--what-ever--has the duty to be courageous and to operate on the needs; it is for the rest of us to cooperate and encourage so the person in charge may be successful for us all. We make or break each other. Father, help us to be aisles, not isles.

"Babes in Christ."

- 1 Corinthians 3:1

"God, my maker, who giveth songs in the night."

- Job 35:10

The smallest star that gleams is set in heaven; the faintest ray of light has affinity with the great orb of day. In the family register of glory the small and the great are written with the same pen. You are as dear to your Father’s heart as the greatest in the family. Jesus is very tender over you.

It is easy to sing when we can read the notes by daylight; but he is skilful who sings when there is not a ray of light to read by-who sings from his heart. No man can make a song in the night of himself; he may attempt it, but he will find that a song in the night must be divinely inspired.

Hard Work

by Cathy Vinson

"He (Epaphras is always wrestling in prayer for you...I vouch for him that he is working hard for you..."

(Col 4:12,13)

Wrestling in prayer is for the priest, and all believers are called into the priesthood.

The high priest always stood between God and man, as did Jesus. If we are a priesthood, what is our function? Prayer is a priestly duty.

A priest in prayer wrestles until he sees Jesus in that situation. For example, he sees the present persecution of Christians in the world and remains until he sees Jesus as Lord through it...he has brought the two together. He remains in the closet until he sees "that in everything He (Jesus) might have have the supremacy" (Col 1:18). He enters his closet burdened and exits knowing God and darkness have been brought together, and God has won.

In Jacob's wrestling match, God said, "You have wrestled WITH GOD and WITH MAN and have overcome" (Gen 32:28).

Various strongholds come into focus surrounding our lives? As they come, we are called to face them as priests. They exists in our opinions, our loved ones, organizational structures, etc. If we will take God and man into our prayer closet, grappling until we see the light of Christ's Lordship dawning though, we will have experienced something of His Lordship. We will find what Epaphras was doing in wrestling in prayer. And we, too, will vouch for him...it is hard work.

~ The Childlike Joy of Creation ~

How did God create daisies? I say, "Like a child."

You throw a child up in the air or bounce him off your knee. When you sit him on the floor, the first thing the kid says is, "Do it again!" Throw him in the air; catch him; bounce him off your knee; set him on the floor. The kid's going to yell, "Do it again!" Do it fifty times. The fiftieth time, the kid is yelling hysterically, "Do it again! Do it again!" The excitement of a little child.

That's how God created daisies. He created one daisy. I'm sure of this. In the childlike heart of God, he clapped and said; "Do it again!" He created daisy number two. Something within God said, "Do it again!" He created daisy number three and four and five. Fifty billion, trillion daisies later, the great God of the universe is still creating with childlike excitement and joy and yelling, "Do it again!"

— Tony Campolo, "If I Should Wake Before I Die," Preaching Today, Tape No. 124.

At that very time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, "I praise Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that Thou didst hide these things from the wise and intelligent and didst reveal them to babes. Yes, Father, for thus it was well-pleasing in Thy sight.

Luke 10:21
