The Daily Miscellany Times 'Old Hickory' wins election for US President December 3, 1828 On December 3, 1828 Andrew Jackson won the
election for president of the US. He defeated John Quincy Adams. In the previous election
of 1924, there was no clear winner. Andrew Jackson actually had more popular votes
than any of the other 4 candidates. He did not, however, have a majority. The presidential
election was turned over to the House of Representatives when a deadlock developed between
John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, William H. Crawford and Henry Clay. Henry Clay gave his
votes to Adams and the House selected John Quincy Adams as the 6th president. Sources: Panati's Extraordinary Endings of Practically Everything and Everybody, Comptons Encyclopedia, A Treasury of Whitehouse Tales |
