DECEMBER 6

GOLDEN WORDS

For it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said:
'Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.'

Ephesians 5:14  NIV

The joy that Jesus gives is the result of our disposition being at one with His own disposition. The Spirit of God will fill us to overflowing if we will be careful to keep in the light. We have no business to be weak in God's strength.

Oswald Chambers, STILL HIGHER FOR HIS HIGHEST

December 6

"I love you today, where you are and as you are. You do not have to be anything but what you are for me to love you. I love you now; not sometime when you are worthy, but today when you may need love most. I will not withhold my love, or withdraw it. There are no strings on my love, no price. I will not force it upon you when you are not ready. It is just there, freely offered, with both hands. Take what you want today. The more you take, the more there is. It is good if you can return love; but if you cannot today, that is all right too. Love is its own joy. Bless me by letting me love you today." Author Unknown.

Previous question and Answer:

At what event did a cloud hide Jesus from the apostles’ sight?

The Assention:

It was not long after he said this that he was taken up into the sky while they were watching, and he disappeared into a cloud.      Acts 1:9

Excerpts from today's Spurgeon's Devotions

Spurgeon's Morning for December 6

Spurgeon's Evening for December 6

"As is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly."

- 1 Corinthians 15:48

"Girt about the paps with a golden girdle."

- Revelation 1:13

Christ’s mystical body is no absurd combination of opposites; the members were mortal, and therefore Jesus died; the glorified head is immortal, and therefore the body is immortal too, for thus the record stands, "Because I live, ye shall live also." As is our loving Head, such is the body, and every member in particular It is in vain that we possess the Scriptures unless we bind them around us like a girdle, surrounding our entire nature, keeping each part of our character in order, and giving compactness to our whole man.

Love Came Down

Love came down at Christmas,
love all lovely, love divine;
love was born at Christmas--
Star and angels gave the sign.
Worship we the Godhead,
love incarnate, love divine;
worship we our Jesus--
what should be our sacred sign?
Love shall be our token
love be yours and love be mine;
love to God and neighbor
love for prayer and gift and sign.

-- Christina Rossetti, 1883

 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13

Today's  Devotion

But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief.

Job 16:5 (NIV)

Prayer

by Cathy Vinson

The decree stated that for thirty days no prayer could be made except to King Darius. For Daniel who loved to pray to his God, this was bad news. His need to pray in this crisis was understandable. But it says he also gave thanks. Part of praying was giving thanks. What was he thankful for? I believe he was thanking God beforehand for answering his requests.

We tend to pray in crises as Daniel, that is, we ask. But do we give thanks as well? Could this reveal our lack of assurance of Him answering us? Giving thanks helps affirm we know we are believing God to answer us.

"Ask and you will receive...," "Call unto Me, and I will answer thee...," "in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving," "requests, intercessions, and thanksgiving..." "Whatever you ask in prayer, believe you have received it, and it will be yours."

The process of prayer includes believing we have received what we ask, and then giving thanks. It gives faith the chance to grasp that tangible change will take place based on our requests. Our faith is exercised; it is TAXED, and it grows stronger. More of us is released to God. We ask inspired by "any tenderness and compassion," and our faith then gives the thankful AMEN.

"In prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" (Mk 11:24). We are believing we have received it, and in the process of prayer we are ACTUALLY receiving it. "Ask, and you will receive, and your joy shall be complete" (Jn 16:24). We emerge from prayer with joy because we are receivng our answers in the process of prayer. When Jesus said, "it will be yours," your possession of the answer has already begun.

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful AND THANKFUL" (Col 4:2). This involves wherever we find ourselves. Let us grasp the joy that comes through believing prayer is making a helpful DIFFERENCE. The creative expression that exercises faith will make us treasure prayer as a way of life...a fulfilling way of life.

"Daniel learned the decree had been published...he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to God."

(Dan 6:10)
