But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief.

Job 16:5 (NIV)

The One You Love

by Cathy Vinson

John 11 verse 1 says "Now, there was a man named Lazarus." But when word was sent to Jesus about Lazarus' fatal illness, he was identified as "the one You love." His sisters, Mary and Martha, had observed, experienced and become a part of the love Jesus had for Lazarus. It was more fitting to
descibe Lazarus to Jesus as "the one You love" than even by his name.

This must have been such a beautiful love for the two sisters to describe their brother in this way. And it wasn't only Lazarus; they knew Jesus' intimate love for themselves as well..." Jesus loved Martha AND her sister And Lazarus" (Jn 11:5). They were each loved individually and together.

What is your name to Jesus? We hope for that awaited name (Rev 2:17). Your earthly name certainly falls short in acknowledging what you are called to Jesus. More accurately, you are described to Him as "the one You love."

Our blessed calling is to "grasp together with all the saints how wide and long and high is the love of Christ, and to KNOW it" (Eph 3:18-19). Knowing it will help us understand how we though many (1 Cor 12:14), may all be the ONE Jesus loves!

.

So Lord, the one You love is sick

(John 11:13)

What is your name to Jesus? We hope for that awaited name (Rev 2:17). Your earthly name certainly falls short in acknowledging what you are called to Jesus.
