But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief.
Job 16:5 (NIV)
Where the Action Is by Cathy Vinson |
A remark handed down
from Martin Luther (that has perhaps gone through one too many source before reaching me)
records him as responding to the tremendous influence of the Reformation: he and his
friend drank beer at the pub while the Word of God did the work. Is this how it works? and from the lips of one who saw transformation. Let's see. In Hebrews 4:12 -13 we are told the Word is working - energeia (energy=in work), powerful, active, energetic, effectual sharper - to cut, in comparative degree piercing - to go through, to penetrate discerning - ready to discern, quick to, able to, fitted for, skilled at judging It appears the Word of God is a moving, living system! It is where the action is. Where the Word is, there is transformation..."They to whom the Word comes...know this inward migration of the soul from slavery to freedom, this release from moral bondage. They know in experience a radical shift in position, a real crossing over, and they stand consciously on another soil under another sky and breathe another air. Their life motives are changed and their inward drives made new." (A.W. Tozer) Let's confidently place ourselves squarely upon the Word of God, then...and ride. |

"What God has said isnt only alive and active! It is sharper than any double-edged sword. His word can cut through our spirits and souls and through our joints and marrow, until it discovers the desires and thoughts of our hearts. Nothing is hidden from God! He sees through everything, and we will have to tell him the truth." Hebrews 4:12-13 |
