But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief.

Job 16:5 (NIV)

He Came to a Corpse

by Cathy Vinson

There is nothing intentional a dead body can do to elicit anything, to impress anyone, or to try to give anything. Without first knowing the spirit of the deceased beforehand, who would sacrifice one's life for a shell without the person.

"While you were dead" (vs 13) many things were done for you, not because OF you but FOR you. A stranger approached you and made Himself your friend. While you were a corpse, He came to you by His own decision. He loved.

What all did He do for you while you laid "dead in your sins."? When He raised up His beloved Son, He decided He would add you to that great resurrection..." He made you alive WITH Christ" (vs 13). "He forgave us all our sins." He knew what "opposed" you in manmade and selfmade standards. He knew it "stood against" you. He cared. He took those regulations and "cancelled them." "He took them away" (vs 14).

You were handled this gently and nurtured being yet a corpse. Think of it: your limp, lifeless body was raised up tenderly in His loving arms. No one ever treated a corpse with more dignity. No love will ever come to you as this.

Lean COMPLETELY on the One that ministered to you outside your choice. He who handled you so delicately when you were without a choice, now makes a choice plain to you. Begin. And if begun, lay it all upon He who has more than deservedly earned your full trust.

"For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross." Col 2:10-14
