Love exuberant dances with Sun,
dances with Earth below
but darkness gathers on this spinning world of wonder
and the dancer in darkness catches breath to think.
A time of pure beauty succumbs to hope and fear
and love in doubt falters, wondering what shall persevere.
Love stumbles on a stormy past, remembering crimes of cold logic
and the indecision of a wandering fool
who knew love was there, but denied human heart
in primordial fear of failure.
May such love be forgiven,
and is fragile hope worth the pain
of pinning life on dreams perhaps dead?
Can such a vagrant, finally true on the road,
ever be trusted by the one he has wronged?
or if not, might he spend himself in hopeless devotion
to love hung on errant arrows
and perish forever from Earth?
and yet she is more than this.
He knows she's worth all his current doubt
and each mistake he's made
but he fears he will die in this effort, and in mortal fear
he ponders renewal of humanity long shirked.
He wonders if he must fall on his knees and beg strength of God.
Such desperate contemplation
so recently ridiculous to imagine
makes him reconsider the cause of joy and woe.
He sees her smile again, and he knows.
He remembers all that she's been
to a man haunted by illusion
and sees that it's always been right.
He kneels to the perfection of Fate
and lays forth his humble offering
to the temple of her beauty:
I have but a picture
but that's all I need.
With memories of all we've had
it plants the perfect seed.
A heart supplanted by reason finely honed
rises to warm in love surely owned
no matter what else may fail me.
I seek words for these wonders I see
but I'm struck dumb by your limitless beauty
my mind lost in love's purest enfoldment
knowing no words could ever be bent
to wrap up these gifts you bring me.
I just want to sit and stare, and let this love be
but you deserve all words I might find
so allow me yet to try this.
You smile on my world and fill me with light
with a hint of your heavenly charm.
Your eyes hold all joy that mortal realms might
and glint of yet further beyond.
Will the world survive such transcendent beauty?
This power is fearsome; see how it's changed me:
You embrace all I've doubted of truth, love and goodness;
you're nirvana's transcendence, the gateless gate of mystics.
This wanderer stuck to his dull lonely song
failing to see love was here all along
always seeking that which yet seeks
chasing hopeless dreams on the run
an aging child hiding then peeking
at people like me who feared love
and I hurt you, my most blessed gift
by running ever so foolishly.
Others have, too, and I wonder at this;
how the world could deal you so cruelly
but that is the past, and for such a perfect jewel
injustitude shan't last, nor incertitude rule
for I see the simple truth--
you are my world.
You and I, my love, we've wondered if love is true.
We've seen beautiful dreams crumble
like castles of sand on the shores of Chaos.
We remember touching beauty, and thinking it'd be forever
and then waking in empty beds.
We remember hurting and feeling forsaken.
You and I've been there; you're not alone in that
and surely we've doubted we'd know truth again.
Surely we've wondered if anything is real
and I'd wonder still, but for you.
I'd wonder still, had I dared not to see my world whole
in your eyes.
Everything has been perfect with you, from the first night we met.
You are all that I want or shall need
and you, my love, are my hope that I'll be who I've wanted to be.
Give me the chance to be that man;
give all that you can, for you are my hope and my light.
You're my restoration.
I always wanted to save the world, and that made me more and less than a person.
I loved all I saw, but was unfit to reward their beauty
and in wretched inadequacy, I failed mostly even to try
but now you shine on me, in ever-growing splendor
and I know I'm a man after all, and I know what I need.
I'll try now, for you
and I'll try without fear, because everything's just fine
here with you
and my future will be
as Fate shall have it.
Humanity returns to a hard young man who foresook this Earth long ago
and with its return, Earth becomes Heaven itself.
It's all here, my love, in you
and your smile.
Sands on the sea collapse, it is true...
let our love build
