1. Probably written third.

2. Attestation - Papyrus (170AD) got his information from John. Mark got his from Peter. Old Latin and old Syriac present Mark.

3. He gave a lot of details

4. Mark failed in the beginning, but he got up and went on.

5. Dependency and Language - only dependent upon Peter, if anyone at all.

6. Why did Mark write this Gospel? Because Peter wanted to give the people a Gospel that they could understand.

7. Date: about 67-68AD. Maybe same time as II Peter.

8. Mark 10:45 presents Jesus as a servant of Jehovah

9. Points and Peculiarities

a. Jesus is servant. Quotes Isaiah, Chapter Five and Malachi. Fifth Gospel is often Isaiah, Chapters Forty through Forty-three.

b. Mark is a Gospel of deeds and is very straightforward.

c. No geneaology for a slave

d. Stresses Jesus as a teacher

e. Mark identified Peter in some instances where the other Gospels do not

f. Shortest Gospel, but he gives fuller accounts of some of Jesus' works

g. Malachi, Chapter Three and Isaiah 40:3 are his only Old Testament quotes

h. He wrote nineteen miracles and five parables

i. Chronological

j. Two endings for this book (shorter and longer). The last twelve verses were written by Mark and should be contained. There is some controversy over these verses.

10. Passages interpreted

a. In cases where commanded to rise up and walk, they did demonstrate their faith.

b. Twelve disciples were chosen/appointed from among his many followers (Mark 3:14) so that they could be with Him. God is seeking us to have fellowship with Him.

c. Disciples are always grouped together. A number have different names.

d. Those who were baptized, Judas did not have to do it again.

e. Jesus had a large family (four brothers and some sisters).

f. Grass in Israel is mainly November to April

g. Three predictions of Resurrection (Mark 8:31, 9:31, and 10:33)

h. Key verse in Mark 10:45

i. Chapter Thirteen is the Olivet Discourse
