1. Says a lot about prayer

2. P52 is the earliest codex (book) of John (125AD)

3. The whole Gospel only covers about twenty days in the life of Christ

4. Big three (Clement of Alexandria, Tertullian, and Irenaeus) said that John is the author.

5. Papyrus said that John the Elder, but he was probably just saying that John was an elder. Peter called himself an elder.

6. John was Jewish, and he knew about the Jewish feasts (Palestinian Jew). He was a contemporary of his events. He named, in John 18:10, the one whose right ear was cut off. He was there.

7. One Jesus loved would probably be Peter, James, or John. They were the inner-three.

a. Peter distinguished himself by referring to the one whom Jesus loved.

b. James was martyred in 44AD, too soon

c. That left John as the one closest to Jesus

8. Being closest added credence to this book

9. Occasion and Date - last one to write a Gospel

a. John is writing a Gospel supplement to believers.

b. The date of writing was approximately 85-90AD (no mention of Jerusalem destruction - either way after 70AD or before it).

10. Eight miracles - he showed groups of miracles that led up to Resurrection.

11. John was only one to report early-Judean ministry

a. John 3:24 - John was not yet in prison

b. Matthew 4:12 - After John was imprisoned

c. The Disciples probably did not become full-time in the beginning. Probably off and on before John's capture, then full-time.

12. "Ben" was used over two hundred times.

13. John has no parables

14. John has twenty-five (verily, verily) - Amen in Greek. No other Gospels have this.
