Reaction To Video Lesson 11 {308 words}

Listening to Lesson 11 provided me with a measure of satisfaction. While Dr. Norman has commented several times throughout the course that many students are bothered by statistics, I am one of the fortunate ones who is not. As a Mathematician, I enjoy studying statistical applications within other disciplines because, each time I do, I learn more about how to use statistics. For example, in this lesson, I have already studied a lot about sampling, but I had never before heard the terms "perfect induction" and "imperfect induction" or "probability sampling" and "nonprobability sampling". I also was not aware of the various types of sampling within the probability and nonprobability categories, so this lesson was especially valuable to me because I learned many new sampling terms.

From a different perspective, however, this lesson has also become a source of concern for me because until now I had understood that our class project would be to just write a Research Proposal. Now, I am wondering if the class project will involve taking some kind of sample. My guess is that we will only have to write about our sampling process in the proposal rather than actually do any kind of sampling.

On a couple of different notes, I think that Dr. Norman is a good teacher. He tends to use the same examples from one class to the next so that we are always able to easily relate the lessons back to a clear reference point. I have not made a decision yet about the inclusion of class members on the videos. None of my earlier EDP classes at Liberty University have had students in the class at the time of taping, and on occasion, I have found them to be a little distracting. But my feelings about this are not a big deal.
