Lesson 18 - The Antichrist {560 words}

1. List some of the suggested identities of the Antichrist. He is the wicked one, the bloody and deceitful one, the little horn, the man of sin, the son of perdition, the man of the earth, the mighty man, the enemy, the adversary, the violent man, the spoiler, the King of Babylon, the Antichrist, the beast, the angel of the bottomless pit, and the abomination of desolation.

2. What does the prefix "anti" mean when attached to the Antichrist? The Antichrist is opposed to Christ (against), but he also tries to be a substitute Christ (in place of).

3. Is the Antichrist a Gentile or a Jew? Why? Dr. Towns believes that the Antichrist is a Gentile because Revelation 13:1 talks about him rising up out of the sea. Daniel 9:26 talks about the revived Roman Empire, and the Antichrist will likely be a political leader in that empire.

4. Describe the character (personality) of the Antichrist. The Antichrist will be intelligent and persuasive. He will be energized by Satan and the embodiment of evil.

5. List the things that are known about the Antichrist's activities. Trace his relationship to Israel. He will be the ruler of the last form of Gentile government. He will have worldwide influence and absolute authority, and his headquarters will be in Jerusalem. He will oppose God and exalt himself. His connection with Israel is that he will establish a seven-year covenant of peace with them. He will break that covenant after three and a half years.

6. How does Antichrist come to an end? He will be defeated, as is recorded in Revelation 19:19-20, and judged, as is recorded in Revelation 20:10 and II Thessalonians 2:8.

7. What is known about the character (personality) of the False Prophet? The Antichrist, the Second person of the Satanic trinity (Satan is first), is portrayed predominantly in the Scriptures as a political leader of immense power. He might even be the head of the revived Roman Empire. The False Prophet is the third person of the Satanic trinity. He is the chief religious figure in the world during the Tribulation. He will probably be a Jew (Revelation 13:11). He is motivated by Satan and will be influencial. He has delegated authority (Revelation 13:12), and he promotes worship of the beast. His ministry will be authenicated by signs and miracles, apparently making many think that he is Elijah (Revelation 13:13-14). He is successful in deceiving the world. He has the power of death to force people to worship the beast (Revelation 13:15). He has economic authority (Revelation 13:16-17).

8. What are the activities of the False Prophet? He will promote worship of the first beast. He will perform genuine miracles. He will exercise some control and influence in economic matters.

9. How does the False Prophet come to an end? He will be judged at the coming of Jesus and cast into the Lake of Fire (Revelation 19:20).

10. How does the strategy of Satan attempt to duplicate the plan of God? Satan will attempt to offer something positive to those who will follow him. His enemy is God and Jesus, so he will not try to immitate them. Instead, he will offer peace to the world to gain his hold over humanity. Of course, he will not be able to deliver.
