Lesson 21 - Christ - The Lamb Of God {286 words}

1. What does it mean to scourge a person? Scourging meant that a person was beat with a whip, sometimes up to forty times. The whip had pieces or rocks, glass, metal, and other objects woven into it so that the beating would be even more severe. Scourging would rip a person's skin off their body. Often, the victim would die from this beating.

2. What were the two charges against Jesus? He was charged by the Jews with blasphemy and by the Romans with treason. He was not guilty of either crime.

3. What three women are mentioned at the crucifixion? Mary, His mom, Mary, the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene were at His crucifixion.

4. What disciple was an eyewitness to the crucifixion? John is the only one who did not run. He was with the mother of Jesus at the crucifixion.

5. What does the phrase "It is finished" mean? When Jesus was at the point of death, He uttered these words signifying that His work on earth was done and that redemption had been won for humanity. The Greek term was from business and meant that the debt had been paid in full. Thus, His physical suffering was over. The last Old Testament sacrifice had been sacrificed. The dispensation law was terminated. The sins of the world were propitiated, He was dying physically, and the plan of salvation was complete.

6. Who buried Jesus? Joseph of Arimathaea and Nicodemus took His body for burial. Joseph provided the tomb, and Nicodemus, a secret friend to Christ, did the embalming.

7. Where was He buried? He was buried in the grave of Joseph of Arimathaea.
