This set is an
artistic rendition (not an exact representation) of West
African, and specifically Yoruba, motifs.
The title graphic resembles the Ifa Table, or divination
plate. The button and the golden mask on the bar are those
of Ifa, the bar is an ancestor staff, bearing ribbons in the
colors of the Seven African Powers, whose New World names are
Obatala, Eshu/Eleggua, Shango, Yemaya, Oshun, Ogun and
Oya/Yansa.
The bird/half moon motif is a reworking of a traditional
diviner's cup. The Kente cloth was digitally created - not
scanned - and bears the cowrie motif (the diamond) signifing
great abundance, and the flying bird, signifying good
fortune and our prayers being carried to Olodumare, the
Creator, all in the traditional African black, yellow red
and green.
