Outline of Main Page 1: "Five Novels as Tools of Humanization"

According to the philosopher Richard Rorty, literature makes us see the common humanity that we share with the other. It is discussed in how far the five American novels Moby Dick, Puddn'head Wilson, Beloved, Ceremony and Maus provide us with this insights, and thus serve as tools of humanization.
This is the starting point for a closer discussion of the theme of de-humanization in Beloved and Maus.
