Outline of Main Page 3: "Overcoming De-humanization"
If novels are about piecing the past together and establishing an order
again, how do they do it? I propose that the authors of Maus and Beloved,
who both have alter ago's in their novels, establish order and make sense
of the past by relating the narrative to anchor terms, terms that link
the experience of de-humanization to some kind of better order. Find out
what I mean by that, and look at the examples I give. A conclusion about
literature as a means of bringing sense to the past and establish an insight
in our common struggle and humanity ends the project.
