MEMORIES OF KEEWAYDIN

In a walk through our spirit home
I touch each precious thing
mellow walnut-cased
grandfather's clock
whose chime
noted passing time
clay pottery bowls
from Mexico
brought by an uncle
we never knew
a cross-stitched piece
celebrating trees
created by a sister-in-law
woods-theme paintings
from New York's Lower East Side
flanking fireplace
of granite and field stone
framed photo collection
of all churches
pastored by
the Reverend Charles L. Austin
oil painting of our valley view
rendered by our sister
deceased at twenty-two
ragged-covered photo albums
pin-pointing our family's
passage of time
All this but a walk in the mind
for a fickle fire
reduced all to ash
yet memories remain
