CONSUMER REPORT #6

Fragments of Discourse and Conversation Overheard on the Street

“Filthy lot of good it will do you.”
“Soon they’ll be everywhere, just think
of the money to be made.”  “Are you sure
you know where this place is?”  “It’s time
everyone started packing a gun, just like old days.”
“...and it’s been gaining ever since.”  “I made a rather
shrewd investment....”  “Smog! I tell you:
I can’t take this city air.”  “See that car,
that’s a sleeper; it’ll move, out on the open road.”
“How can you tell?”  “She’s been over there every night
for the past two weeks.”  “Sadie says they were in the park
the other day, for all the world to see.”
“Just wait until her husband returns.”  “What do you
want to see? Ghostbusters V or the Empire Implodes.”
“How does it work?”  “Excellent.  I’m going back for more.”
“We should price Nintendo while we’re there.”
“Get a load of that blonde.”  “Nice ass.”
“There’s a new club in town: -(Dash).  Do you like
the new wave?”  “Can’t say.  Is it any different
from the standard flourish of the hand.”
“You’ve simply got to go there, he’s a wonder with hair.”
“When are they gonna stop complaining about the mileage
                             and fix these roads.”  “They finally caught that child killer;
I hope they fry the son of a bitch.”  “There’s the bus.”
“... cut welfare entirely.”  “That’s too drastic.”  “Nonsense,
if they don’t work, then they deserve to starve.”
“What a kick in the ass, he must be crushed.”  “... overwhelmingly.
Nobody wants to see that happen.”  “Bomb the bastards.
We’ve got the firepower, it’s time we started using it.”
“... screwing on these little bolts.  If you don’t mind the repetition
then you should put in an application.”  “... out of the private sector
and cut back on domestic spending, then the economy would....”
“... get you stoned.  Uncut rocks, waiting to be cooked.”
“... until it melts in your mouth.  You’ve simply got to try it.”
“You know that crack that spans the street?  That pit
ate the hubcaps off my new Plymouth.”  “Be glad
that’s all you lost.  Ben Fuser lost his wife in that fissure.”
“How was it out in the country?”  “Excruciatingly dull.
I couldn’t wait to get back.  You have no idea
what it is like, to be shut away from the world.”
“I’ll bust his fuckin’ head in, if he thinks he’s foolin’ me.”
“It screams!  Can you hear it? searching through the city streets
at night.”  “Look at that, he’s nuts.”  “Searching for life.
Vampires must have blood.”  “There’s a sale at Bloomingdale’s,
we really must stop there.”  “It’s for the pain.
Chemotherapy....”  “Oh dear! I’m afraid we’re lost.”
“He makes me horny whenever he’s around.”  “He killed
ninety-seven innocent people before they got him.”
“Who knows?  He couldn’t handle life.  Too much
happening at once.”  “Some people are just like that.”
