From ST http://www.asiaone.com Pahang MB refuses to apologise over gesture Pahang Mentri Besar
Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, defying opposition demands that
he apologise for making a lewd hand-gesture in public,
has said he has done a lot for the people and that the
opposition has no means to run him down. He also accused the
opposition of blowing the issue out of proportion and
added that they had run out of ideas to undermine him. "They will pick up
on anything to run me down... even a small slip on my
part," he said, referring to the lewd hand-gesture
which he made on nomination day for the Sanggang
by-election last Tuesday. "That is their
attitude and it is not something extraordinary. This is a
sign of frustrated people," he told reporters after
a dinner attended by Chinese voters from the Sanggang
constituency. Also present were Umno
secretary-general and former Pahang Mentri Besar, Tan Sri
Mohamed Khalil Yaakob, Pahang MCA chairman Datuk Chan
Kong Choy and the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the
Sanggang by-election, Mr Redzwan Harun. Datuk Adnan, who is
spearheading the BN campaign in the constituency,
reiterated that he just could not tolerate it when Parti
Islam (PAS) supporters shouted nasty remarks like Hancur
Barisan and Mampus Barisan (destruction and death to
Barisan). "I just reacted to
what they did. My action shows that I am a simple man.
Being a Mentri Besar, I never feel superior," he
said. PAS supporters have
denied that they provoked the Mentri Besar by showing
vulgar signs to him first. Asked to comment on
this, he said: "They will deny everything because
they are a bunch of hypocrites." In another development,
Pahang Parti Keadilan Nasional Youth chief Zakaria Hamid
has filed a police report against the Mentri Besar. He has alleged that the
Mentri Besar committed an act of indecent behaviour on
nomination day. Asked to comment on
this, Datuk Adnan said: "This is a democratic
country. They can lodge a report anywhere they like, even
on the moon." When told that the opposition was determined to drag him to court, the Mentri Besar said he would let the law take its own course. |
