Here’s an interesting algebra problem.
| start with |
x = 1
y = 1 |
| so | x = y |
| multiply both sides by x |
x² = x · y
|
| subtract y² from both sides | x² - y² = x · y - y² |
| factor each side | (x + y) · (x - y) = y · (x - y) |
| cancel | (x + y) = y |
| resubstitute |
1 + 1 = 1 or 2 = 1 |
This is obviously not correct. What’s wrong?
