Here’s an interesting algebra problem.

start with x = 1
y = 1
so x = y
multiply both sides by x x² = x · y
subtract y² from both sides x² - y² = x · y - y²
factor each side (x + y) · (x - y) = y · (x - y)
cancel (x + y) = y
resubstitute 1 + 1 = 1
or 2 = 1

This is obviously not correct. What’s wrong?

E-mail me for the correct explanation.
