The Castle Garden

As you wander into this quiet courtyard of the castle, you are met by a bright profusion of color and fragrance. The garden invites you to spend a moment or two in the springtime sun, to enjoy the day, and to embrace your imagination. During warm days, castle residents often come here to play music, read poetry, dance rounds, or sing madrigals. During summer nights, dashing swains and their pretty maidens often walk on the moonlit path.

A note on flowers: medieval men and women were quite fond of flowers, using edible blooms in desserts and wines. Also for the medievals, blossoms communicated their own complex language of symbolism, especially the symbolism of love both secular and sacred.
