B.SC COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

The B.Sc. (Hons.) Computer Science and Engineering program at Asian University of Bangladesh has been designed in close cooperation with experienced and eminent academicians in the field of Computer Science and Engineering, at home and abroad, in order to be able to offer a degree of international standard in advanced technology.

Objectives

The basic objective of AUB's B.Sc. (Hons.) program in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is to produce world class IT professionals. The program covers a comprehensive curriculum following standard international guidelines. This program has been designed so as to achieve the perfect blend of theory and practice in order to provide a path for students to steadily increase their engineering knowledge and programming skills. It is expected that with this program the students will get adequate training in a wide variety of environments (including Windows NT and Unix) and in an equally wide variety of hardware platforms. Students will gain knowledge in software development, internet programming, network engineering, computer architecture, microprocessors, VLSI, software and hardware engineering to equip themselves appropriately to face the challenges of the emerging IT industry in the 21st century.

Besides, following the recent trends in advanced universities in the developed world, the CSE curriculum includes some selected inter-disciplinary subjects. These subjects form a general body of knowledge along with the major area of concentration in order to prepare the students to adjust to the reality of contemporary world facing multidimensional problems and issues.

Work Load And Duration

Based on the US system, normal work-load of a student varies from 15 to 18 credit hours per semester. If a student enrolls for two semesters a year with this work load, he/she would need about 4 years to complete a B.Sc (Hons.) program in Computer Science and Engineering. However, if a student chooses to register for three semesters every year, he/ she will need less than four years to complete the program. Thus it is expected that a student will normally complete a B.Sc.(Hons.) degree in Computer Science and Engineering in 3 to 4 years time, depending on his/her work load and seriousness. The minimum number of credit hours that a student must take per semester is 12 and the maximum is 18. This may be relaxed only with special permission of appropriate AUB authorities.

Competitiveness

The entry into the program is highly competitive. In Fall 1999, there were 600 applicants for 80 seats.
