This program consists of a few "eggy" games for you to play and finishes with an initiative exercise called "The Great Aussie Egg Drop"! Remember to be prepared with some plastic bags for this last activity - it can be messy! It is recommended that this program only be run outside - or you may incur the wrath of your Church Elders. If you can buy some, chocolate eggs are great for rewards.
1. Egg and Spoon race
The traditional egg and spoon race (using either raw eggs or hard boiled
if you want to avoid the mess) but in pairs with centre legs tied
together - each person has their own egg and spoon.
2. Egg Catch
Line pairs of children opposite and facing each other, about two metres
apart. Give one child in each pair a raw egg. The idea is that the egg
is thrown between each pair. After each threw each person takes a step
outwards (away from each other). The idea is to keep throwing the egg until
the egg is dropped and breaks. The pair who throw the egg the furthest
without breaking it are the winners.
3. Egg Peel
Select 4 children and give each a hard boiled egg. Their task is to
peel their eggs with one hand behind their backs. When a winner has been
found select another 4.
4. Egg Juggle
In circles of 6 or 7 pass a hard boiled egg across the circle until
everyone has had a turn and the "leader" has the egg back again. Remember
who you received the egg from and passed to. Repeat this routine several
times, when the group is really good with 1 egg the leader adds in a second
egg with the same throwing routine. A third egg is introduced until the
group is "juggling" one more egg than they have group members or all the
eggs are beyond use! If the group bombs out encourage them to start again
and have another go (keeping the same routine).
5. Egg shoulder pass
Stand the children in circles of about ten. Place a hard boiled egg
between the cheek and shoulder of one child. Pass the egg around the circle,
no hands!
6. The egg eating competition
For those with strong stomachs, or a sense of adventure. This relay
game requires several beaten raw eggs, with each egg in a saucer. The aim
is for each participant, with their hands tied behind their back, lick
up one saucer of raw egg. Don't force people into this game, and a touch
of vanilla essence helps cushion the blow. A judge needs to adjudicate
so all the egg is consumed.
7. The Great Aussie Egg Drop
Supply each group of 3 or 4 with a metre of masking tape, thirty drinking
straws and a raw egg. Their task is to find a way, using the resources
they have been given, to drop the egg from a height without it breaking.
Give the groups ten minutes to come up with a prototype of their solution
and then have a go at testing them out over a balcony, off a step ladder
or out the window! Obviously the winning group(s) is the one which doesn't
break its egg!
