WEETBIX, the great high energy fibre filled cereal is making a comeback! It's a simple and effective tool for having lots of fun. Apart from string and a food item for game 6, no other equipment is needed. I even found that my dog came to like WEETBIX after eating our scraps for a week which we had shovelled into plastic bags. Just select a few games from the ones below that suit your group and have lots of fun.
1. Towering WEETBIX
Either in teams or individually see how high a tower can be made of
WEETBIX in a set time limit (60 seconds, or 3 minutes)
2. On the Nose
Divide your group onto relay teams. Each team separated by a distance
of approximately 2-3 metres. A wooden or vinyl covered floor is essential.
The object of the race is for each contender to push their WEETBIX with
their nose along the floor to the next member of their team. Race continues
until all members have had their turn
3. Tag WEETBIX
Put your group into teams of 6 or 8 and allocate 3 or 4 WEETBIX to
each team. On the whistle the first person takes a WEETBIX, breaks it in
half and eats half, then runs to the 'judge' (leader) who makes sure their
mouth is empty. If so, they run back to the next person in the team who
then eats half and so on. If a player's mouth is not empty they must wait
with the judge until such a time as it is. This continues until all the
team members have had their turn.
4. Obstacle WEETBIX
If you are in an area where there is an outside obstacle area this
is great! If not why not make one up! The aim of the game is to see how
may WEETBIX each participant can carry around and at the end count the
unbroken WEETBIX. The children can only carry WEETBIX in their mouths
or hands! Most people will try and carry 8 or 10 but will find only 4 -
6 will remain unbroken!!!! To add more excitement you can put a time limit
on the game. e.g. how many unbroken WEETBIX are left after 2 minutes. This
will stop people being too cautious!!!
5. Stringy WEETBIX
Tie some WEETBIX up on a string in a row and put each child by one
(half or a quarter of the children at a time). Tie or get them to put their
hands behind their backs. The child must eat the whole WEETBIX, even if
it falls to the floor!!
6. Buried WEETBIX Treasure
This is the most fun but can cause the most mess!! Choose a foodstuff
(I suggest flour or baked beans!) and put them in 4 big bowls. In the middle
of the bowls place a flat WEETBIX. On the whistle the children have to
retrieve the WEETBIX out of the bowl using their mouths only!! The first
person to do this is the winner.
7. WEETBIX Balance
In tag teams as in game 1, the children must run from one another with
the WEETBIX on their heads! If a WEETBIX is dropped a 5 second penalty
is incurred. The team who wins is the one who finishes first (and as an
added extra eats the WEETBIX at the end if they have not eaten too many
at this stage!!)
8. WEET WEET BIX!
This game is based on "Duck Duck Goose". Sit all the children in a
circle, or if more than 16 children, 2 circles. Pick one child as a runner.
He or She then walks around the circle touching each child on the shoulder
with the WEETBIX saying "Weet". If the child says "Bix" then they must
drop the WEETBIX into that person's lap. The child who has got the WEETBIX
must chase the child who just gave them the WEETBIX and who they said "Bix"
to. Keep going so that everyone gets at least one turn.
9. WEETBIX Quiz
Divide into groups and allocate a large number of WEETBIX to each group.
The challenge is to see which group can answer your questions first by
spelling the answers using the WEETBIX. It may be helpful to begin with
simple 3-4 letter words to begin with.
10. What WEETBIX
Using your resources and imagination make up some more games!! The
messier the better! Be aware however that there are only so many WEETBIX
a child can eat!! You don't want to have to clear anything else up.
