GET 1999-2000 CAMPAIGN OFF TO FAST START
CHS I 5-0, WINS
DIVISION TITLE; CHS II ENDS 4-1 IN THREE-WAY TIE FOR FIRST
The CHS Academic
Team got the new season off with a bang Saturday, September 25th at Ezell-Harding
as their two teams combined for a 9-1 preliminary round record. Central's
first team of Lindsay Crowell, Christie Stanford, Madison Turner, and Jeremy
Wear rolled through the morning rounds undefeated racking up wins over
Gordonsville (310-80), Lipscomb I (250-130), Cookeville IV (280-240), and
Middle Tennessee Christian II (280-50) setting up a show-down in round
five with fellow undefeated team University School of Nashville which the
Lions won 270-200 sending them in to the play-offs as the tournament's
seventh seed. The play-offs found CHS I matched against Hillsboro
in a game that was close until the end when Hillsboro pulled away to a
180-100 victory.
Central's second team of Jennifer Kragenbrink, Salvador Lopez, Emily Senefeld, and Sam Wantland won matches with Portland I (330-160), Cookeville V (340-160), Bearden I (260-250) and Forrest (310-150) with the only blemish on their record being a 350-190 setback at the hands of a strong Bartlett team out of Memphis. The second team ended the morning in a three-way tie for first with Bartlett and Bearden but missed out on the play-offs because of a tie-breaker.
Lindsay Crowell and Jeremy Wear shared high scoring honors for Team One each scoring 220 points. Lindsay achieved a personal milestone when she scored her 1000th career point. Emily Senefeld and Sam Wantland paced Team Two with 250 points and 180 points, respectively.
The CHS Academic Team will next see action at Lexington High School on October 16th where they will be hoping to defend the tournament title they won there last year.
