Central
Finds Going Rough in Trip to West Tennessee
Team hopes to turn things around
at Vanderbilt
The Central High
School Academic Team returned to action Saturday after a three week
lay-off. The
Lions traveled to west Tennessee to compete in the Lexington High School
Invitational where
they faced several teams from the Memphis area. Central’s first team
of Lindsay Crowell,
Christie Stanford, Madison Turner, and Jeremy Wear could never get
the offense started
as they fell to Chester County (145-105), defeated Marshall County,
Mississippi (150-60)
but lost to Craigmont (225-130) and Bartlett (170-120).
Central’s second
team of Jennifer Kragenbrink, Salvador Lopez, Emily Senefeld, and Sam
Wantland fared little
better losing to Bartlett (130-85) and Chester County (115-105),
winning over Marshall
County (240-90), and then losing to Craigmont (140-95).
The day’s final match
saw the two Central teams square off with the second team winning
in a minor upset
by a score of 155-110. Top scorers for Central were junior Jeremy
Wear
and sophomore Sam
Wantland. Jeremy became only the ninth Central player to pass the
2000-point mark
in career scoring.
Central’s overall
season record now stands at 12-9 with the next competition scheduled
for October 30th
and 31st at Vanderbilt University.
