The universe is like a multi-story building and we all live in it. The Elementals live in the basement, the Gods in the Penthouse and humans live on the floors between the two.
There is only one elevator in the building and only the Gods can use that, though a lot of ‘priests’ think that they have an access key. Pretty much any xian tele-evangelist, any fundamentalist Hard-gard, and inquisitor in modern or past history, any New Age Expert and a bunch of others. You know them for their egos and arrogance. But they don’t. Most don’t even have the phone number to the Penthouse. But they pretend that they do.
The rest of us have to use the stairs.
But the Elementals can’t open the stairwell door so they cannot reincarnate. They die and end in the basement. So when humans visit the basement, the elementals latch onto us and work for us in the hopes we will give them a key to the stairwell door, the key being a soul and the elementals hang with us hoping for us to teach them how to get a soul.
The building has a number of sections too. The bottom dozen floors or so are for humans. The next dozen floors are Astral Planes, the top dozen for Gods and the Penthouse for THE Gods. Some Gods are more powerful than others. And this is based solely on two factors. How many people worship them and how fanatical is the worship of their followers. The more people pray to a god, the higher up he gets to move. The more fanatical their followers, the higher up they move. So it is important to a god to convert more people to his religion and to exterminate the followers of the other gods.
This weakens the other god enough to make them move down to a lower floor so that god can move up to a higher and better floor. That’s why religious wars are so popular.
But only when the god starting one is certain of winning or has so many people he can afford to loose a few thousand.
New souls are being created all the time. And older souls are becoming more powerful and wiser with each incarnation.
Now when humans reincarnate, they can go up or down the floors reserved for humans. The more lifetimes you have, the higher you go. The more stupid mistakes you make and refuse to learn, the lower you go. (note that other religions say the ‘better’ you are according to the tenets of their faith, the higher you go)
This is why some people just seem to be ‘better’ more ‘holy’ or ‘spiritual’, ‘powerful’ than are others who just don’t have a clue.
With Wicca, you gain ‘experience points’ with every year you spend in the Craft AND do your work and live a decent life (according to Wiccan tenets) and hold the Sabbats and give energy to the Gods. When you die, you are reborn on that same floor and if you are reborn Wiccan or return to Wicca, you start to gain more points. It’s like D&D experience points. That is why our Passing Rites are a spell to ensure the dead person is reborn as a Witch and preferably with our Coven.
Well, eventually, you gain enough experience points to be reborn on the next floor. You still look and act human and you hang in the courtyard and common rooms with everyone from other floors, you are just ‘better’ or ‘more holy’ or ‘more powerful magickally’ than the people who live on the lower floors.
The problem is that too many people think that just having a Degree or even finding Wicca, they are automatically promoted to the higher floors. Only the Gods hand out experience points and you need these points to move up. But you can tell who is and is not a more ‘evolved soul’. Petty people tend to not to be ‘evolved’ despite what they want to believe.
Eventually, you are so powerful and have so many experience points that you live on the highest floor allowed to people. Then they gain more experience points and WHAM!!! They die and are reborn on the lower Astral Floor. And the whole mess starts all over again with new rules.
BUT, some of these Witches who are now on the Astral Floors think, “Maybe I can help my Brothers and Sisters of the Craft?” and they pop down to the human floors occasionally to help us out. These are the Mighty Dead, the Lords of the Watchtowers, the angels and guardian spirits or spirit guides that people talk about.
Some people never get off the first floor no matter how many lifetimes they experience.
Some people go up and down forever between the same few floors. Hopefully, they get a clue, change their lives and then begin to advance up the floors. But not everyone does that. It’s your choice. And some people move up quickly. Again, it is up to you.
Making mistakes is ok. It’s a part of being human. Refusing to learn from those mistakes keeps us from moving up.
Getting angry is ok. It’s a part of being human. Loosing control and hurting people keeps us from moving up.
Sex is ok. It’s a gift of the Gods. Getting someone drunk to get laid or requiring sex for a job promotion or dragging people into the bushes or chasing young children is wrong and keeps us from moving up.
Getting a buzz from the occasional glass of wine (or other drug of your choice) is ok. Becoming an alcoholic or drug addict is not and stops our progress.
You get the idea.
Some people think that if they avoid human life, they avoid the problems and mistakes and stupid acts that stop us from moving up. So they retire to a monastery or convent or a beehive hut on the coast of Ireland or a cave in the mountains and meditate or pray all day. They don’t make stupid mistakes or commit crimes, but they also don’t get experience points either.
So, how do we gain experience points and move up the floors towards the Realms of the Gods?
Simple. Live a good life, and you know what being good is. You don’t need someone to tell you “hey, shoving a bunch of kids from a nursery school through a blender and eating them is bad” that is a no-brainer. Walking into a McDonalds with an assault rifle and cleaning house is another no-brainer. Molesting young girls or boys because you are a cop or a school principal or a priest is another no-brainer.
It’s like the LOAC classes we took in the military. Law of Armed Conflict. You a re NOT allowed to commit a crime even in war. You MUST refuse to obey an illegal order or any order that will cause you to commit a crime and report the person giving that order to the highest competent authority. You don’t torture or execute prisoners or civilians. Etc. But too many cops and soldiers sleep through the LOAC classes. Too many pagans sleep through the Ethics Classes they took in Outer Court. So they say “I was just following orders!” Buzz! WRONG ANSWER! Go to the first floor and loose 500 experience points. Or “I did it for my country/religion”. Buzz! WRONG ANSWER! Go to the first floor and loose 500 experience points.
Or, “Hell no! That’s wrong and not only will I refuse to do it, I’ll stop you if you try!” Ding! Right answer. Gain 500 experience points, move up one floor and earn the love and respect of all humanity.
So, with the ambiguity of the Wiccan Rede and the total lack of a list of ‘dos and don’ts’, how can we be certain that our actions are positive and will gain experience points?
Simple. Before you act or speak, ask yourself this simple question, “If I do this, will someone or something be hurt either physically, emotionally or socially?” If the answer is ‘yes’ then performing that act is probably wrong and you shouldn’t do it!
Of course, there are exceptions and questions and gray areas. So when you come across one of these, find a philosopher or priest/ess or someone you respect for their wisdom and knowledge and ethics and discuss it with them.
Some of these will open a book and read the answer. If so, it probably isn’t the right one. Others will actually stop, think and discuss the matter, helping you to come to the right decision.
Your choice. It’s a part of being human.
