One of the tasks that Witches take upon themselves is to help those who are in trouble. This help is rarely financial as the average Wiccan doesn't appear to care enough about money to become rich. However, the help given is more than a simple prayer. It will encompass the offer of a shoulder to cry on, a place to go when needed, assistance in working or solving their problems, and also the working of Magick or Psychics to solve the difficulty. And in fact, using psychic or magickal healing is extremely important tothose who choose to follow the Path of the Old Religion.

But what happens when all efforts to heal this person fail?
Does it mean that there are evil magickians working against you? Or do you have no abilities in this so very important field? The former is so rare as to be almost nonexistent. The latter can be solved by some good hard training by a qualified teacher. But sometimes the best healers with an impressive record of successes will meet a person who simply cannot be healed. Why?
The most common explanation is that the patient has decided to become ill in order to learn an important spiritual lesson (possibly to learn to be taken care of) or to teach an important spiritual lesson (possibly to enable someone else to learn to care). In this case, the patient may consciously want to be well but cannot be. I leave the solution to this up to the philosophers to learn.
The other reason why someone cannot be healed is that they simply want to be sick. A child who is ignored by family and barely tolerated (in the eyes of the child) will, upon becoming ill suddenly be the center of love.
( "Dear, how are you feeling? Can I get you something?" "Please allow me to fluff your Pillows. How about some ice cream?")
Then when the kid becomes well, that attention and love vanishes.
If your early life is like this, you may seek to recover that love and attention by making yourself sick. Hypochondria is the clinical term for this behavior. But hypochondria is a need to pretend to be ill in order to become the center of attention.
Some people however, are able to make themselves weak enough to actually contract a real illness and to resist healing by doctors. If this person can control their own bodies enough to fight off the medical establishments arsenal of medications, then they will have little difficulty in resisting psychic healing. If by some manner, they are cured/healed, then they will loose that attention and again make themselves sick. THEY ARE REALLY ILL. THIS IS NOT IMAGINATION. They actually do become ill and these illnesses can be dangerous. You treat them by not only healing their illness, but by curing their mind as well. They need to realize that they can get attention and love in other ways.

Another common situation is waiting too long to heal. Injuries are best repaired immediately upon being ill or injured. If you heal them soon, then their body will accept the healing and return to its natural state of good health. But, if you wait too long, then the body becomes accustomed to the injury and considers the illness to be its natural state and resists all efforts to change.
To better illustrate this take the situation of being overweight. The body is normally thin (read the ideal weight charts) but under certain situations such as pregnancy, insecurity, too drastic a change in diet to one that is far richer than before, the body will put on weight. When you allow this to happen and become more than ten pounds over your normal, the body will then consider this new weight to be its normal size. When you force it to loose that fat, it will resist because it now sees itself as being normal and an outside force as trying to kill it with starvation. The body will then resist this by dropping a few pounds then slowing the metabolism so that it can gain the lost weight plus extra even though you are eating far less than normal. It is necessary to do drastic things to force the body to realize that thin is normal.
The same holds for healing an old injury. The body considers that scar or weak heart or bad eyes or cancer to be normal simply because it has lived with it for so long and therefore considers any attempt to heal as a threat to be resisted.

Finally, there is guilt and the need to punish oneself that causes the body to be ill. First you must convince the person that there is no need for self punishment, then you can heal them. This case may be the most difficult to treat as often the person has a lifetime of being belittled by others and family to overcome. It is first necessary to convince them that they are a worthwhile person and second to cure them of any concept of guilt for imagined crimes. If there is an actual situation that may warrant guilt, then having the person make reparations to the injured party (repair the damage that they caused) will cure the mind, then it is relatively simple to repair the self created illness.

Not every case of healing will fit into these areas. Most will be simple injury/sickness that respond readily to psychic and/or magickal healing techniques. But if your efforts are for naught, it may be necessary to investigate the possibility that you are in a low cycle as regards to your own powers or that the person being healed may fall into one of these groups.
