SONGS FOR THE UNBORN

RAGIN’ RIVER --- Rev. Scott Vandehey

Babies go floatin’ down the river,
The poor tiny babies in ragin’ river.

1. Who will enfold them, see how they shiver,
the poor tiny babies
in ragin’ river?

2. Who will protest this, do not hearts quiver,
the poor tiny babies
in ragin’ river?

3. Sin, pain and sorrow, there is no winner,
the poor tiny babies
in ragin’ river.

4. Who will protect them, who will deliver,
the poor tiny babies
in ragin’ river.

REFRAIN

Lord of Mercy, have mercy on us.
Lord of Mercy, have mercy on us.
Lord of Mercy, have mercy on us.

TESTIMONY OF REV. SCOTT VANDEHEY
(Copied from Father Vandehey's music casette, with his permission)

On Mary’s birthday (8/5/91) I was asked to deliver a homily at a pro-life Mass here at St. Mary’s in Eugene, Oregon. I asked Mary for help. I felt her maternal concern, saying to me that sin is out of control in our world, much like a “ragin’ river and that her children all over the world suffer so much under the cloud of evil.
In my homily-turned-song, she challenges us to awake from the sleep of indifference and to reach out to the children around us, especially those abused and aborted, those homeless and hungry, those shunned, lonely and unloved. Mary beckons us all to be committed to the “little ones” as is her Son, Jesus. She askes us, point blank ...
Who will protect them?
Who will enfold them?
Who will deliver? ---

AS WE KNEEL BEFORE YOU

As we kneel before you,
As we bow our heads in prayer,
Take our hearts, make them yours
And fill them with your love.

REFRAIN

Ave Maria, gratia plena Dominus tecum, benedicta tu.

All we have we give you.
Every dream and wish are yours.
Mother of Christ, Mother of ours,
Present them to our Lord.
Refrain

As we kneel before you
And we see your smiling face,
Every thought, every word
Is lost in your embrace.

HAIL MARY/GENTLE WOMAN

Hail Mary, full of grace,
The Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women
And, blest is the fruit of your womb,
Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners, now
And at the hour of death.
Amen.

REFRAIN

Gentle woman, quiet light,
Morning star, so strong and bright,
Gentle mother, peaceful dove,
Teach us wisdom, teach us love.

You were chosen by the Father,
You were chosen by the Son.
You were chosen from all women,
And for woman, shining one.
Refrain

Blessed are you among women.
Blest in turn all women too.
Blessed they with peaceful spirits.
Blessed they with gentle hearts.
Refrain

PRAYER OF SAINT FRANCIS

Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me bring your love;
Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord;
And where there's doubt, true faith in you.

Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope;
Where there is darkness, only light;
And where there's sadness, ever joy.

Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
In giving of ourselves that we receive,
And in dying that we're born to eternal life.

LA ORACION DE SAN FRANCISCO

Señor, haz de nosotros instrumentos de tu paz,
Donde haya odio,pongamos amor;donde ofensa, pongamos perdón;
donde haya discordia, pongamos unión; donde haya error, pongamos verdad.

Donde haya duda, pongamos la fe; donde haya angustia, pongamos esperanza;
donde haya tinieblas, pongamos Tu luz; donde haya tristeza, pongamos alegría.

(CORO)

Maestro, que no busquemos tanto ser consolados, como consolar;
ser comprendidos, como comprender, ser amados, como amar;
porque dando, se recibe; perdonando, se es perdonado;
y muriendo se resucita a la Vida Eterna.

PESCADOR DE HOMBRES

Tú has venido a la orilla,
no has buscado ni a sabios ni a ricos,
tan sólo quieres que yo Te siga.

Señor, me has mirado a los ojos
sonriendo Has dicho mi nombre.
En la arena he dejado mi barca,
junto a Tí buscaré otro mar.

Tú necesitas mis manos,
mi cansancio que a otros descanse,
amor que quiera seguir amando.

Señor. . . . . . .

Vienen trayendo entre sus manos
esfuerzos de hermanos por la paz,
deseos de un mundo más humano
que nace del bien y la verdad.

Vienen con alegría. . . . . .
