If you are interested in contemporary debate about the history and currency of Wicca and Neo-Paganism, then you should try and track down a copy of the latest issue of Gnosis. This magazine contains eight in-depth articles discussing the history (real and perceived) of Wicca; our understanding and relationship of and with nature; the Goddess movement; and a great look at some books with very shaky foundations. There is also an interview with Starhawk and Carol Christ about academia in Paganism. The articles are a frank and brutal examination of Wicca and Paganism, in an attempt to debunk the romantic history that is sometimes painted by contemporary Wiccan and Pagan scholarship. I think that if you are after some honest debate and thinking, without the attempt to make Wicca seem hundreds and thousands of years old, then you should get a copy of this magazine.

(Editors note: copies are available at Adyar Bookshop for about $15. Other "new age" stores might also have a copy. If you are unable to get a copy, please send me a buisiness sized SSAE and I will forward a copy of the relevant articles to you.)
