Matthys Cornelis Grove Janse (Basie) van Rensburg was born 12 December 1919 in the Lindley-district. In 1946 he became the fulltime organiser of the HNP in the Free State and in 1951 a first secretary. He was the leader of the NP in the Free State (1968-1970), and a member of the Federal Council (1962-1970), deputy minister of Transport (1966-1968) and Minister of Post and Communication (1968-1970). Basie van Rensburg died in 1970.
