The Teachings of don Juan
Carlos Castaneda 1968

This was the first book. It puts large emphasis on drug related experiences, and also contains a rather useless section with an attemp to structure don Juans knowledge.

It's rather obvious that the popularity of this book is a direct result of the elusive descriptions of Castanedas experiences under the influence of certain named drugs. This book contains very little of practical use, and many things in it are contradicted in the following books.

This book is of little use to the practitioner, but I still recommend it as essential.
