Betty
Holland
I was born in Beaumont, Texas (a native Texan!) Mother, Daddy and I moved to Irving in 1936 when I was 6 and my parents built our home at 220 S. Main Street (where Harvey and I live again today, returning there in 1976 when I inherited the home). School was one block east, 4 buildings on Jefferson Street between 2nd and 4th streets, the site where today the Heritage Senior Activity Center stands. I started and graduated school there.
I met Harvey (another native Texan!) December 1952 when I successfully applied for a secretarial position at the Dallas dress manufacturing firm where Harvey worked as a salesman. We married a year later and begat Dave (1954), Rick (1956), Betty Ann (1960-2001), and Dinah (1965). These kids begat us 8 grandchildren (2 boys, 6 girls) and 4 great grands.
Today Harvey is retired from The Prudential (in 1982) and I from Firestone (in 1986 after 19 years as the administrative secretary in the Southern Division of the Firestone Real Estate Department). Whenever retirement became a grind, I would look for something to challenge my mind and contribute to the household funds. It was during 4 years at H&R Block in the early 1990s as a seasonal tax preparer that I was introduced to the computer and we have been close ever since. I discovered the Computer Fun Group one day through a flyer at Joes Coffee Shop and made many friends who have endured to this day. Those in this group who have subscribed to its Premise and Promise have done so much for so many.
