INTRODUCTION
TO OLD TESTAMENT OUTLINES
It has been said that the Old Testament is the New Testament
enfolded, and the New Testament is the Old Testament unfolded. Thus the need for our having a working
knowledge of the Old in order to better understand the New (compare Rom. 15:4
and 1 Cor. 10:1-11). So a "bird's-eye view" of each Book
in outline form can be very helpful in getting into the study. To that end these outlines are presented as a
study guide -- please keep an open Bible at hand. May each reader be blessed, and may God be
glorified as we learn more of His Word.
These are my personal notes, derived from many sources. My dear Lois assisted me in getting many of
the materials together in preparation for the study. She did much typing and proof-reading; also
she and the members of the Norhill church in Houston encouraged me through the
several years it took to complete the outlines and present them to the church
as Wednesday night lessons. Others have
given much help toward the completion of this work.
In preparing the outlines I borrowed heavily from the books,
outlines, articles, and notes of others.
From these I selected what I considered to be the best, condensed it,
and put it in outline form. Since these
notes were not originally intended for publication, and were for my use only,
very few direct quotes are credited to their authors, and it would be
impossible to do that now.
Hopefully, those writers from whom I borrowed will not
object to wider circulation of their good material. I do not want to be a plagiarist, so please
understand -- The format is largely mine, but much of the material is from
others. With you, I thank them and the
Heavenly Father for this help. If you
find error, or if you can suggest improvement, I will be glad to hear from you.
