Dina's Tikkun

Leah prayed for Rachel to bear a son,
A cry on behalf of Yacov's care.
In building the twelve-tribe nation,
She pleaded for her sister to have a share.

A trade occurred due to Leah's prayer.
Yosef's birth made Rachel a matriarch.
And between the children forever was there
An enduring bond of a holy spark.

Under a terebinth of Shechem were idols buried,
The protective gods of Laban's house,
Taken by the beloved that Yacov had married,
Drawing an unwitting curse from his mouth.

Dina's tears stabbed Shimon's heart,
But Yosef's cries he refused to hear.
For her honor he rallied his brothers' part;
For Yosef, he instigated jealous fear.

To Egypt the brothers sold Yosef away,
Like the baby of Dina's endless shame.
Fires of Shechem burned in Israel to the day
That Yosef quenched the flame.

Asnat of Shechem, Dina's humiliating disgrace,
Continuing the bond with Yosef's soul,
Ascended to take her rightful place,
Perpetuating the family's role.

To their eldest was Shechem assigned,
Bequeathed to Yosef as the best.
And there was he forever enshrined
To radiate peace from the place of his rest.
