B"H

To those who, though forewarned that exactly this would happen, and preferred to go on with the tearing Israel to pieces process to make Arafat happy, and who IGNORED the Torah which predicted exactly this - that we would get "hedged in" by our enemies if we make treaties with them and don't get them out of our land - (Rashi, I am NOT going to look up the source now, again.)

YOU SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO HASHEM. YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER!

Letter to General Moshe (Bugi) Ya'alon
Deputy Commander of the Israeli Defense Forces
17/10/2000

Dear General Ya'alon,

My name is Shlomit Gadot. I live in Negahot a year and a half. Last March, as part of the third stage of the second redeployment, Israel transferred part of the Negahot road to the Palestinian Authority.

The entire Negahot community, myself included, knew then that this was a criminal act, abandoning us to the mercy of Palestinian terrorists. However, at that time, during a meeting with you in your previous position as Commander of the Central Region, you promised us that the Israeli military forces would "do everything possible" to ensure our safe travel on the road, without any limitations. (We were and still are opposed to being a "second Netzarim.")

I was not convinced, fought the decision within the democratic framework of which we live, and did not succed.

TODAY, I TURN TO YOU:
It has been almost one month since Arab rioting brought a full closing of the road leading into our community to Israelis. We are not allowed to travel on the road because of the security dangers involved in travelling through Palestinian-controlled territory. There are constant warnings that we will be shot at. Israeli armed forces are not allowed to use the street due to political decisions.

IS THIS HOW YOU DEFINE "TO DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE?"
I am the mother of a three and a half year old child. There are no other children his age in Negahot. Every day he would travel 15 minutes to nursery school at Beit Hagai. For almost a month he has been unable to attend his nursery school. Every day he asks me several times, "When will I be able to go to nursery school?"

PLEASE ANSWER ME: FOR HOW LONG?!
I work in Hebron, a 20 minute drive from my home. In order to reach Hebron I must use an alternative route, via Kiryat Gat. Today, it takes me two and a half hours to get to my place of employment. For almost a month I haven't been able to go to work. How am I supposed to earn a living?

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?
The situation today has transformed us into a community under siege, as is Netzarim in Gazza. However, no one is willing to take responsibility for this catastrophe. There is no public outcry.

General Ya'alon, don't you think that you are personally responsible for this, having personally recommended that the road be transferred to Arafat. You personally brought about this terrible situation. Is this the Israeli army that we once knew? Is the Israeli army surrendering to Arab terror? Have you despaired of being able to protect me when I travel back and forth from my home, on this street?

I hope and pray that you will understand my emotions, as a frustrated mother who cannot get to work and who, for a month, cannot send her son to nursery school.

Shlomit Gadot
Negahot

Letter to Israeli Knesset Members and other public servants

October 16, 2000
Shalom,

For the past few weeks a number of roads have been partially closed due to rock-throwing and shooting attacks. The road leading to our community has been closed since Rosh HaShana. And no one seems to care.

This street was transferred to the Palestinian Authority over a half a year ago. There were solid assurances that civilians and administrative military forces would be able to continue to freely use the road. Since the recent violence began, the political decision-makers forbade any Israeli forces from entering areas controlled by Arafat, including this street, leading to our community. Therefore, we have also been forbidden from using the street, leaving our community cut off and isolated. Our queries to military sources have been answered as follows: "There is nothing to prevent us from reopening the street, but it cannot be done without permits from the political level."

This street is the lifeline of our community. Our residents work in the Hebron Hills, in Kiryat Arba, in Hebron, in Jerusalem. Children travel daily to kindergarten and nursery school at Beit Hagai, 15 minutes away. Since Rosh HaShana the children must stay home. The only solution we have is a road leading from the neighborhood in the direction of Kiryat Gat. In order to reach Kiryat Arba, or any of the other communities in this area, we must travel two and a half hours.

Please help us. It is your responsibility to reopen this street, allowing us to live our lives normally, without having to drive two and a half hours to reach destinations 15 minutes from our homes.

Thank you.

The residents of the Negahot community.
