A family went to visit the grand parents, and some other family members. After having dinner, the grown-ups sat around talking as older people do. The couple's young boy came in to the room. After a short time, he stretched out on the couch and went to sleep very soundly. The next morning when he awoke, he was in his own bed at home. He got up from bed, and went to the room where his mom was already up doing morning chores. As the young boy and his mother talked, he brought up something that had been bothering him. He said, "Mom, you know I heard the preacher say Christians should not be afraid to die. But Mom, I am a Christian and I believe in Jesus, but I am still afraid to die. I just can't help it Mom!" His mother sat down at the table and motioned for him to come and sit on her lap. She said, "Sweetheart, you know death is like you going to sleep at granny's last night and waking up at home this morning. You were asleep on the couch, and your daddy just picked you up, and covered you up in his coat, and held you all the way home. When we got home, he gently carried you to your bed, and covered you up, gave you a kiss, and the next thing you knew you were at home. That is what death is like sweetheart." Then she asked him, "If you had woken up last night in the dark, on your way home, would you have been afraid or scared?" The little boy answered his Mom as she held him. "Why would I be afraid or scared Mom, my daddy was holding me the whole time." |
